There comes a time when a couple fulfills their date with destiny, and we lovingly refer to it as their wedding date. But weeks, months, or even years before that special date comes, there’s something else which comes ahead of time. Actually, it’s that of planning a wedding checklist.
Because weddings are planned celebrations, they are often marked by milestones in your preparations. To set the stage, first comes the momentous wedding proposal and then follows the acceptance of an engagement ring to seal the love. Next are the much-awaited arrangements on your checklist which covers both the solemn marriage ceremony and the grand wedding reception.
If you were to plot all of these along a timeline, planning a wedding checklist and accomplishing everything in it would usually cover a 12- to 16-month timetable. If time is not a constraint and you are in no rush to get married, it would also be around this time that you determine your type of wedding as to theme, formality, location, and time of day.
Give or take a few weeks, much of the flurry of activities would happen during the final 4 to 6 months. That’s when much of the selection for vendors is done. By this time, vendors such as caterers, florists, decorators, printers, photographers, and musicians should already have been arranged. At this time, you’re supposed to be in the middle of shopping for bridal accessories to wear and wedding gifts to give away.
As for the wedding checklist itself, it has to be prepared no later than 9 months before your wedding date. Perfect to go along with your checklist would be a wedding planner book to schedule all your appointments. Together, they will help you get organized and ready for the big day!
Especially when you’re working on a shoestring budget, it’s so important to tie all those loose ends. When the loose ends are handled properly, you won’t be plagued by last-minute problems and changes which often force you to go beyond your budget. More than anything, these unknowns and uncertainties will jumble your nerves in knots.
So before you tie the knot, do set a date and make a list! Make it a point to sit down and put yourself to the task of planning a wedding checklist. It is those early checks on your checklist which allow you to stick to expenses and beat deadlines. All you have to do is mark it with checks or “X’s” once a task is done.
