He popped the question and you said yes. Now what? It's easy to frustrated and overwhelmed by planning a wedding. Even a small one. Here are six tips to help you navigate the walk down the aisle.
- Organize. Having everything at the touch of your fingers is by far the fastest way to keep your plans on track. There are many ways to keep yourself organized. Online software, which can be found at many wedding sites. But, many brides-to-be prefer the traditional binder. It can be as simple as a plain binder bought from your local office supply store or as elaborate as specialty wedding binders. Either way, keeping samples, quotes, ideas and contracts ensures that you will have what you need as the blessed day gets closer without wasting your valuable time searching for your florist's contract.
- Compromise. Can not decide on the guest list? Have a rational conversation. Decide in advance when it's going to be intimate family and friends or everyone you've ever known in your life. Sometimes, you can not always get what you want so find a compromise instead of holding a grudge.
- Budget. But those dreams always come with a price. Get estimates and quotes well in advance. With your budget in hand, decide which elements will mean more to you than others. Work with your vendors about finding cost effective alternatives.
- Get everything in writing! This one can not be stressed enough. You can not prove that you were promised something if you do not have it in writing. Did your florist substitute blue flowers for red flowers? Although it will not do much on your wedding day, having it set in writing allows for monetary recourse.
- Include the groom-to-be. Although he probably does not relish the though of pouring over napkin swatches, it is his day too. Find a way to include him in the decision making. Food tasting and reception scouting is a fun way to spend time together as a couple.
- Do not forget you have a life outside the wedding! There's nothing worse than having a friend so absorbed in their own wedding that they talk of nothing else. Have a night out with friends, without talking about the wedding. This includes the hubby-to-be as well. Do not let him forget that you are an interesting and funny person and not a bridezilla.
Overall, planning a wedding is supposedly to be fun. Sure, it's stressful and hectic, but I guarantee once it's over, you'll miss it. Keeping everything organized and staying on top of all your wedding planning ensures that the day will go off without a hitch. Before you know it, your big day will be here and you'll see all your hard work in action.
