8. Love at 34,000 feet
A couple got engaged during an Alaskan Airlines flight from Seattle to Juneau on March 18th. The kicker: The unsuspecting bride-to-be, Brandy Hollenbeck, is a flight attendant and her groom, Eric Greener, works as a pilot, making their high-flying proposal all the more meaningful. “At one point I thought, ‘Someone up there is telling my love story!’ But I just kept serving coffee,” Hollenbeck tells the airline.

7. Cute Kindergarten-cop proposal
Although we’ll never tire of crazy-creative engagements, sometimes the sweetest proposal moments feature the couple in their natural surroundings and a little help from family members or friends. Case in point: Police officer Dain Metcalfe teamed up with his girlfriend Auika Muragin’s kindergarten class and co-workers to pull off the pop quiz of a lifetime. The couple met in Kauai, Hawaii (where Metcalfe currently lives), and their week-long romance led to a long-distance relationship. Eight months later, Metcalfe flew to Oregon for Muragin’s birthday to ask her to become his fiancée.

6. Man proposes to his high school sweetheart on her last day of chemo (with fireworks!)
After facing cancer together, Lucas D’Onofrio celebrated his high school sweetheart’s last day of chemotherapy in the most spectacular way possible — by asking her to spend the rest of her life with him. He proposed to Tamara Bruzzo on June 5th at the Boca Raton Regional Hospital in South Florida following her grueling six-week treatment for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. In a Facebook post, the groom-to-be writes, “I finally proposed to the woman of my dreams, and she said yes…Everything we’ve been through in the last 6 years just proves to show that God and love are everything you need.”

5. Groom creates a custom video game to pop the question
Austin Piech’s proposal to Lauren Woodrick was every gamer’s dream! The tech-savvy groom designed a video game modeled largely after Super Mario Brothers that included elements from important milestones in their relationship — the first time they met, their first date, and their first road trip together. Buzzfeed reports that the little mariachis that appear on screen towards the end are singing the same song that Piech’s grandfather used to propose to his grandmother. How adorable is that?

4. Emotional proposal video dedicated to fiancée’s late father
Tyler Shelton dated his girlfriend Haylee Rose for seven years, and throughout that time, he always wondered how he was going to ask for her father Greg’s blessing one day. Sadly, Greg passed away on April 25, 2014, of heart complications, and he never got the chance. Fast-forward 13 months later, and the 21-year-old video blogger proposed on a cobblestone street in Rome, Italy with cameras rolling. As if that wasn’t romantic enough, he decided to dedicate his proposal video to his late father-in-law’s memory.

3. A proposal in a packed movie theater
Liam Cooper wanted to ask his high school sweetheart, Amy, to be his wife in the most unforgettable way possible — mission accomplished. The Aussie groom came up with the idea to film a proposal parody to the hit tune “Rude” by Magic! Liam took Amy to the movie theater on a date to see the film Focus (or so she thought), excusing himself to the restroom as soon as the lights went out. What happens next is equally hilarious and heart-meltingly adorable.

2. Man proposes to the girl he’s been in love with since the fifth grade
Sam Maccarone and Jessica Burzichelli met when they were just ten years old at Broad Street school in Gibbstown, New Jersey. Their playground crush evolved into true love, and when Maccarone was ready to pop the question, he enlisted the help of his cousin, Matty Mac (a musician), to stage a music video in which he would star alongside his soon-to-be fiancée. They filmed in different locations in Philadelphia over the course of the day, leading up to one very special performance. “I’ve dreamed about this moment since we were little kids,” the bride revealed to BuzzFeed News.

1. Man proposes to his girlfriend every day for an entire year
Who says you should only get proposed to once? Dean Smith popped the question to his girlfriend, Jennifer Kessel, a whopping 365 times — without her knowing — using a whiteboard while going about his daily routine! He captured the year-long proposal spree on tape, which he finally unveiled to Kessel on January 8, 2015 (her 26th birthday) while they were on vacation at the Playa Linda Beach Resort in Aruba.
