Wedding Attendants 101 – The Role of the Groomsmen

[ad_1]

The groomsmen make up an important part of the wedding. While no doubt there is a lot of fun to be had at the bachelor party, the groomsmen take part in other aspects of the wedding too. Here is a simple and straightforward guide to the roles of your typical modern day groomsmen.

The men will often be called upon for attire fittings. This is especially true if you have a particularly formal event with a strict dress code. They will need to liaise with the groom and the best man who will most likely be in charge of the attire for the guys.

One of the aspects of being a groomsman that everyone looks forward to is going to the infamous bachelor party. It is up to the guys to get together with the best man to plan the event. While these were once considered to be wild and raucous affairs, nowdays they tend to be more laid back.

As an integral part of the wedding the guys will also be required to attend the rehearsal dinner. This is a small get together prior to the ceremony for all the attendants. It follows the ceremony rehearsal where roles for the ceremony itself can be practiced. It serves as an opportunity for the bride and the groom to thank those closest to them.

Unless you are having a particularly large wedding ceremony with a lot of guests and a lot of people looking for a role in the event, the task of being an usher usually falls upon your groomsmen. This is a pretty straightforward job to do. Ushers simply stand at the entrance to the wedding ceremony, show wedding guests to their seats and hand out ceremony programs if you have them. As ushers they play a valuable role as it helps to avoid any seating issues making for a smooth running ceremony.

At the reception the guys may dance with the bridesmaids and offer toasts to the newlyweds once the floor is opened up to speakers. Part of their role is also to decorate the bride and groom's getaway vehicle as the reception is winding down.

By and large the role of the men is to offer support for the groom during wedding planning. In the build up to the big day itself the groom will probably require some help and his groomsmen should be there to provide it.
