New biological studies have found that women often choose their mate based on his hygiene or the way he smells. By "smells" I am referring to natural body odors, not the commercial colognes men wear. Women can actually smell wether a man is or is not a good match for her as her nose sorts through his good and bad genes.
Now with that said, nobody smells like a basket of roses all the time. And if you're looking to find a date, going up to a man and saying, "hey there, I can smell you over over here and I like it …" may be a very awkward experience. Not so great as a pickup line.
However, this is an example of just one of the very minority elements of attraction when it comes to romantic partners.
Smell, intelligence, wit, charm, hobbies, values … all of these factors can come into play when it comes to attraction. Sometimes a person in a relationship may not be attractive outwardly to the general public but can hold charm, delight, wonder and devotion from their partner.
So if you're in a relationship with someone that's hotter than you, what do you do? For some, this may be completely irrelevant. It often depends on one's standards and social circle. If outward appearances are a factor in determining popularity, friends, and success, then being attractive is more of a priority. In this article, we're speaking to that person … the one that feels that it does matter that the partner is more physically attractive.
If you're in this position, consider looking at yourself from the perspective of your partner. Is it your humor that captivates them? Do you make them laugh for hours? Is it your mind? Are you inquisitive and enthusiastic about learning? Is it your values, like adventure or health or spirituality?
You can also look at who / what you find attractive. It may be people or things that are not traditionally beautiful, but hold more excitement in other areas.
The more you focus on the hundreds of elements of attraction, the more you can flaunt your favorite hits. If you have witty charm, connect with more people by planning and attending social events. If you have a keen sense of art and design, consider forming a group that studies design and goes on field trips. If you're an athlete, be sure to build in time to train for fun events in interesting places, so you can take lots of photos and have great stories to share.
The more you can be "you", the more beautiful you become … and the more obvious it is that beauty is a trait that is in the eye of the beholder.
