2011 Wedding Ideas

As 2010 draws to a close, it is time to start thinking about your 2011 wedding plans. Still looking for inspiration for your nuptials? Get started by checking out these great 2011 wedding ideas.

Choose an Eclectic Natural Color Palette. The colors which you select for your wedding can really inform all of your other choices, from the wedding attire and bridal jewelry to the flowers to the table linens and even the wedding cake. A great trend for 2011 is a wedding color palette made up of hues inspired by nature, but combined in a slightly eclectic manner. Picture a woodsy moss green and mushroom brown combo brightened up with hints of coral for a summer wedding. Or opt for a natural color palette from the shades of the beach – sand and sky blue with azure watery tones. While natural color palettes are usually somewhat understated, they can still be quite upbeat.

Wear a Simple Bridal Gown. After seasons of fantastical wedding gowns with tiers of cascading ruffles, wild embellishments, and exaggerated silhouettes, there is something very refreshing about a bridal gown which has a quiet simplicity. The best examples of this new trend for 2011 were seen at Amsale, where many of the wedding gowns were created with classic lines, gorgeous silk, and a single signature embellishment, such as a bow at the waist. These new gowns look clean and crisp as compared to the very busy styles which have been popular in recent years. Best of all, a simple wedding gown allows the bride to put her personal stamp on it with her choice of bridal jewelry, veil, and other accessories. By selecting a simple but elegant bridal gown, you will be the one to shine, rather than the gown itself taking the spotlight.

Have a Dessert Reception. If a full scheduled dinner at your wedding reception does not fit your style or your budget, consider a dessert reception instead. This is a fun type of reception which can be held at any time of the day, other than over a traditional meal time. It is ideal for a mid-afternoon or late night reception. Create a lavish spread of every type of dessert you can imagine, including pies, cookies, bars, candies, eclairs, and of course, wedding cake. Make the dessert reception more special by including one or two focal points, such as a chocolate fountain, a crepe station, or a sundae bar. Add in an assortment of drinks, and you will have a great reception that everyone is sure to enjoy. The nice thing about a dessert reception is that it can be very family-friendly, unlike the other short reception trend, the cocktail reception.

Carry a Cascade Bouquet. No longer the stiff, contrived creations of the 1980s, cascade bouquets have come back in style. They would be a gorgeous alternative to a round bouquet for a 2011 bride. The flow and movement of a modern cascade bouquet allow the natural form of the flowers to be featured. The size of the cascade bouquet to both the bridal gown and the bride herself, so a petite bride or a slender wedding gown should be paired with a more modest cascade, while a tall bride wearing a full skirt could choose a larger bouquet. The cascade bouquet would be a lovely choice to carry with one of the new simple but elegant 2011 wedding gowns.

Hire a Unique Band. One final idea to make your 2011 wedding fantastic is to hire a band which is different than the usual wedding band or DJ. Choose a band which plays a style of music that you really love, whether it is bluegrass, country, jazz, or something else. As long as the music is good for dancing, your guests will have a good time, and it is so nice to hear something different than the standard reception playlist for a change. After all, if you would not normally do the "Chicken Dance" or listen to Van Morrison, why would you have that music played at your wedding? The best weddings are those which really look, feel, and sound like the personalities of the bride and groom.
