Flowers are one of the largest expenditures in a wedding. A simple way to trim your wedding costs is to reduce the amount of flowers used as wedding decorations. This of course is a little bit easier said than done. Flowers are the best way to make an event elegant, and also to fill up space in an otherwise empty reception hall. Luckily, there are a variety of other centerpieces available that do not rely on large floral displays. These include, but are not limited to candles, statues, frames, and small bud vases.
A centerpiece adds a great decorative element to your wedding reception area, and it does not need to be limited to only the dining tables. The same centerpiece used to decorate your dining tables can also be used to decorate space at your cocktail hour and can be used as a wedding gift table decoration.
Keep in mind that there is also the option to personalize a centerpiece. Think of what a nice touch it would be to be able to decorate your wedding reception using your monogram and wedding colors. Feel free to be creative with your wedding decor! Think outside the box, and keep in mind that a vase does not need to be filled with flowers. Another creative idea might be to use a vase centerpiece as a fish bowl! Simply fill a clear glass vase with stones or floral marbles (which are very affordable and can be purchased at art supply stores) in the same colors used for your wedding, and add water. Tropical fish are available in a variety of sizes and colors – there is sure to be a pretty fish that can match your wedding colors.
Also consider the season and theme of your wedding. Are you planning an autumn wedding? Decorative leaves and branches can be used in a clear glass vase as your centerpiece. These can easily be anchored by floral marbles that are color coordinate with your reception. Is your wedding a summer or destination affair? Consider filling a clear glass vase with sea shells. Sand or floral marbles can be added to the centerpiece vase with sea shells to add more visual interest.
Something else to consider – there are multiple uses for any centerpiece other than flowers after your wedding! You can hold on to your wedding centerpiece as a keepsake. Think of how lovely it will be to use it to decorate your new home with the same centerpiece use on your wedding; it would be a beautiful reminder of your love and commitment. Of course, there is always the option of reusing the same centerpiece from your wedding as a centerpiece for the next party you host, and there is always the option to resell your recycled centerpieces on sites such as eBay.
