When planning a wedding, it's easy to become overwhelmed with the high price tag that comes along with it all. Planning a perfect wedding does not have to cost an arm and a leg if you are willing to take the time to be creative.
If you can sew, think about making your own dress. Wedding dresses can be a huge chunk of a wedding budget and even sleek simple styles can set you back quite a bit. Many brides have had the perfect dress without the huge cost by either making it themselves, or by having a sewing savvy friend help. This is also true for the bridesmaid's dresses, sure you can order expensive matching dresses that nobody will ever wear again or you can go with a simple dress that you can either make yourself or even a general color theme where you can order a variety of dresses that are not exactly the same. Having some flexibility with the dresses can save you quite a bit.
Centerpieces can be easy to design without spending a fortune as well. One close friend of mine handmade her rose bouquet centerpieces by taking a simple wooden base, a Styrofoam ball, silk roses and plenty of well placed glue. One wedding I attended had centerpieces made of homemade candles in fun vintage teacups that the bride had collected at thrift stores over the year. She had collected vases and saucers to make them various heights and they turned out truly very beautiful.
Another fun idea is personalized wine bottles; a case or two of wine with a nice picture glued over the label makes a personalized fun take home gift for all your guests. When thinking about take home party favors, why spend an enormous amount on things nobody will ever get any use out of, sure the etched glass vases are pretty but who needs a monogrammed vase with the bride and groom's initials, which is certainly something that will end up collecting dust on a shelf.
Why not invest in something fun for your guests, temporary tattoos was featured at one lady's wedding and her guests had way too much fun decorating themselves for the reception. Small personalized coloring books can be printed out at home and small packs of crayons can be made out a large box of dollar store crayons for your younger guests.
Hiring a photographer is also a big part of a budget, everyone wants wonderful professional pictures of their wedding, but maybe you know somebody who is a whiz with the camera or you could consider hiring a photography student. I knew of one lady who hired a photographer for the wedding itself, but saved money for the reception shots by renting a photo booth. Her photo booth photos of the guests turned out amazing and everyone had a good time taking the pictures.
There are many DIY and crafty sites online that can give you plenty of ideas to help you really personalize your wedding and still having enough money afterwards to go on that wonderful honeymoon.
