Catering Menu
There are a number of different ways that you can save money with the catering menu. Firstly, why not have your wedding catering at a different time? People are stuck in their ways and sometimes find it difficult to see past how they think something is done. This is never truer than wedding catering. Dinner is always going to be the most expensive meal of the day, so why not have a wedding lunch or a wedding brunch? You can save a lot of money by changing the time of the day.
Catering staff and equipment can be a phenomenal charge on top of your wedding catering so you can make some decisions regarding the menu selection that will save you money. You could order platters to be delivered, this way you save money on staff and equipment but do not miss out on gourmet quality food. If you are having canapés, sometimes you could order a cold selection of gourmet canapés, so you do not incur a staff fee or an equipment fee. The finger food can be delivered and some helpful guests or family members can walk them around for you. Also, you can have the wedding cake cut up and served for dessert, this will save you $ 10- $ 20 per person for catering.
Saving on Alcohol
The biggest saving you can make if you are providing your guests with alcohol is simply to buy it yourself, from a wholesaler, and not from the caterer or venue. If the venue allows this and if you have a friend with a ute or truck, then this is a great cost effective way to provide alcohol. Your caterer should be able to find a cold room trailer to rent and will be able to provide all of the expertise to set up, and staff, a small bar. Depending on the style of function, the number of guests and the type of alcohol served, a good bar person should be able to serve 50 to 100 guests without any problem. A good idea is to have one bar person on the bar, so guests can come and be served, and another bar person roaming, topping up champagne and wine glasses, refreshing bees and clearing away empties and rubbish.
Another good saving technique is to start off with a small bar tab, if you can afford it, for just wine and beer, then a cash bar when the tab runs out. No one will expect you to provide them with drinks all night, for free! A modest bar tab is a great gesture, but after it has gone, make the guests pay for their own booze.
Saving on Guests
The head count is an important part of saving money on your wedding. You do not need to invite everyone you know, colleagues, friends of friends, Facebook friends, distant family members and neighbors. It is your special day, so you invite whomever you want. A good rule of thumb is if you have not spoken to them for twelve months, do not invite them. A good core amount of your nearest and dearest will not only save you money, but it will ensure that your wedding is filled with beautiful people who really have your best interests at heart.
Ask Your Caterer
You can tell right away if your caterer cares about making your wedding day special or whether they just care about their bottom line. Speak to your cater and ask if they can offer any special deals. Some caterers offer deals on larger numbers, some offer a discount for cash, some include more staff and equipment in the price, all you have to do is ask.
