When planning your engagement party, you may or may not wish to have an engagement toast. Traditionally someone from the bride to be family (normally a parent) and someone from the groom to be family (also normally a parent) will make an toast to the newly engaged couple. A sample engagement toast may be:
"Thank you everyone for joining us to celebrate the engagement of Joanne and Mark. I would like if everyone can raise their glasses and propose a toast and wish them all the very best on there engagement."
An engagement toast can be as long as you wish to make it but its best to not draw it out and possibly bore your guests.
The Groom-to-be usually replies to the toast by thanking everyone for coming, thank his bride-to-be for organizing the party (if she did) and do not forget to mention how nice she looks for the party.
Some other ideas you may wish to consider when preparing to make your engagement toast is to
- Share with everyone what your first impressions were of the couple
- Share how the couple met (in your words)
- Share your thoughts on how you believe they have grown as a couple
- Share how the groom- to -be asked you for your daughter's hand in marriage and share his emotions
- Offer your support for planning the wedding
- Thank everyone for coming and joining them share this special occasion.
A tip is to keep a copy of your engagement toast as this may well be a very similar toast that you wish to make on the couples wedding day.
What ever you decide to say when toasting the engaged couple make sure its welcoming, loving and well prepared.
