Great Wedding Reception Ideas – Catering Your Own Wedding

Wedding wish lanterns are one way to make your wedding unique and memorable, but catering to your wedding is certainly another.

It may seem like an insane idea to do all the cooking yourself at your own wedding, but in these cash strapped times, we all need to be willing to throw ourselves into the deep end if it means we'll save a bit of money. You should not have to feel sick to the stomach at the thought of spending more than you can afford on your special day, and the advantage of planning and cooking the dishes yourself (that and you) is that you have complete control over it. No one need know either!

I recently stumbled across an article in a well known cookery magazine, which told the story of a woman who cooked for 140 people at her wedding ceremony. The upshot was that the whole thing was hugely successful, with many people saying it was the best wedding food they've ever tasted. It's all about organization and planning, so before the big day, plan like mad. Choose simple but crow pleasing dishes like a good cut of beef and delicately fragrant vegetables, and remember not to cook a food that is completely alien to you, ideally you should be familiar with the dishes. Avoid canapes that need assembling on the day itself, this just means more hassle for you.

Get as much done in advance as possible and plan every detail of the process, like how much oven and freezer space you might need. Also, get friends and family to lend a hand (or hands). It can be a fun activity to do together that will build memories during the lead up to the wedding as well as on the day itself. People love to feel understood, and as though they are making a valuable contribution to a very special day. Once everyone has enjoyed the food, you can get down to the business of enjoying the band and launching a few wedding wish lanterns.
