Having penciled in a date for a wedding, in theory the two people concerned should be full of ideas about how things are going to be run.

Their first and sometimes primary role is to help you come up with a cohesive overall design for your wedding. They'll turn your vague ideas and inclinations into some definite preferences that can then be measured against a variety of options for things such as the service venue and the location for the reception.

This is a very demanding task and one that should not be underestimated.

Then once the overall design is signed off, it's necessary to translate that into a detailed plan of action. On the wedding day things will not happen of their own accord and everything needs to have been procedurally arranged beforehand. If something can go wrong with the arrangements on the day then you can be sure that they will and the wedding planner is the person you will rely on to make sure that no such thing happens.

Setting yourself up as some sort of 'general factotum' wedding planner may not encourage the greatest degree of confidence in your potential clients. You will need to be seen to have an in-depth knowledge of the subject area and to have had some degree of formal wedding planner training.

The best wedding planners will usually be prepared to go that extra mile on your behalf and they will be working with you as almost an extended member of your family.
Should you use a wedding planner?

The decision clearly must rest with you but the advantages of doing so should not be underestimated. Putting together a memorable wedding requires imagination and management skills. The best wedding planners will have those two things in abundance and will use them to make sure your big day is an unparallel success.
