Saving Money on Your Wedding Cake Is a Piece of Cake

[ad_1]

Wedding cakes are often the centerpieces of a wedding. Beautiful, delicious and like works of art, they often have the price tags to match. The cost is understandable, considering the time and work that goes into creating an elaborate wedding cake. Do not fret, because we're here to help you find some ways to get your dream wedding cake while staying within your budget.

Choose Buttercream instead of Fondant Icing

Fondant icing gives cakes a smooth, clean and beautiful texture but it will put a dent in your wallet. Buttercream frosting can be just as lovely if applied correctly and usually tastes a lot better too. Best of all, it's much less expensive since fondant is approximately three times more expensive than buttercream. Ask your baker to show you some examples of cakes with buttercream icing to help inspire and design yours.

Less is more

When I was planning my own wedding I was surprised to hear from a wedding planner and my baker that only 80% of wedding guests indulge in a piece of wedding cake. Since cake is charged by the slice consider ordering a size slightly less than your guest list especially if you are serving another type of dessert. We ended up ordering a cake with enough slices to feed every guest and still had more than 20% of it left at the end of the night. It's just a little food (or cake) for thought!

Fake Cake

This is a trick that is becoming very popular. You can find faux cakes online and some bakeries will even rent them out. Many come with a real bottom tier or area to slice for pictures. Have your caterers take the cake away to be 'cut' and simply serve your guests from sheet cakes you have stored in the venue kitchen. Your guests will be none the wiser and your wedding budget will stay in tact.

Skip the Cake

The easiest way to cut the cost of a wedding cake is to pass on it entirely. You can choose instead to have a dessert bar, candy buffet or even have a wedding favor display cake like this one. Fill each slice with chocolates and it will double as favorites and dessert as one!

Hopefully these cost savings tips will let you have your cake and it too! Share with us below any other ways you saved on your wedding cake.
