Taking wedding videos is no joke. It is a serious business undertaking that requires utmost care, responsibility, presence of mind, and creativity. Since weddings are once-in-a-lifetime events, there is no room for trial and error. 1. Plan your shots. Coordinate with the bride and groom prior to the event so that you will have an idea on what kind of video shots the couple wants to have in their wedding video. If possible, get a hold of the event's program information so you would know the flow of the wedding.
2. Attend rehearsals. Rehearsals are not only for the couple and their entourage. It is also for you so you know where you would stand when the couple says, "I do," or you would know from which angle you should take the shot when the groom kisses the bride, and so on. It will also give you an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the venue and the people attending the wedding.
3. Spotlight should be on the bride and groom. The bride and groom are the stars of the wedding. This means that you should concentrate on getting as many shots of them as possible. Of course, this does not mean that you would just disregard the other people completely. Just be sure you pay extra attention to the couple, as this is their moment.
4. Watch out for priceless moments. Capture those moments that you would only see during the wedding such as when the groom sees the bride for the first time walking down the aisle or when the mother of the bride gets teary eyed when her daughter makes a speech. A good videographer is always there when the right moment happens.
5. Take many candid shots. Catch the bridesmaids laughing heartily or the little flower girl doing a cute dance. Shoot the scene where the mother of groom secretly dabs her eyes with a handkerchief or the father of bride shaking hands with the groom. Candid moments can make the wedding video even more special.
6. Do not forget to take still life and façade shots. Take video shots of the church façade, the reception venue, the table centerpiece, the wedding favors, the wedding cake, and the wedding decoration. Pan the camera slowly from one side to the other or zoom it closely graduated so that the shots will not be boring.
7. Double-check everything. From the camera to the lighting equipment to the batteries, make sure everything is in proper order. Remember, there is no room for mistakes. You can not come to the bride and say, "Sorry, I did not get that shot where you two kissed because I ran out of battery." You will never hear the end of it.
