Wedding Ceremonies – What is Essential and What is Optional

[ad_1]

Are Wedding Ceremonies standard – or do I have some options?

There are only three things you must do in your ceremony to be legally married in the Province of Ontario (ask your officiant / minister what they are). Otherwise, you are free to create a ceremony that reflects you as a couple.

The Officiant or Minister you choose may have limits to what they will or will not do, and they may have strong preferences. You need to decide as a couple before you meet with them what is really important to you that is not negotiable and must be included. If the Officiant you are interviewing is not comfortable with your choices, then graciously thank them for their time and seek someone else.

Outdoor ceremonies are very popular and most Officiants are happy to conduct the wedding in the great outdoors. Statistics tell us that as much as 80% of weddings do not take place in a church, the traditional venue for all such ceremonies. When the ceremony is out-of-doors there is usually a more relaxed feel about the whole event and some couples and guests very appreciate it when everything is more relaxed.

How your wedding party walks down the aisle (whether guys first, girls next, or guys & girls paired), who walks with the bride (father, father & mother, grandparent or with the groom) and if your Maid of Honor is male or female is entirely up to you. You also have the option as to how much or how little (none at all) religion is in the ceremony. Again, talk to your Officiant to establish that they are okay to leave religion out; if not, find the one who will.

Do you have options? Yes, Virginia, you do!
