As the saying goes 'marry in May and you will romance the day.' It's easy to make romance your theme with a beautiful and dreamy wedding. Pick just the right colors and blooms for your May wedding invitations, décor and design and you'll have a day you will not soon forget.
Mother's Day
May is also a month for Moms. You do not want to steal the spot light from Mom, so steer clear of Mother's Day weekend. Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. Luckily in 2009 and 2010, that leaves you four other weekends to host your May wedding
May colors and patterns
The pastel colors of April can be set aside for a brighter splash of color for May weddings. Pick seasonal flowers such as Gerbera Daisies (in a wide variety of colors), Calla Lily, Roses and Daisy Mums for a fresh and bright bouquet.
Add some romance to your wedding with lace, damask and dramatic patterns. Accent your wedding invitation with any one of these patterns for beautiful look. Keep you're dreamy theme going with accents in ceremony programs, linen and even in bridesmaid dresses. If May is a month of romance, then romance your guests with your great style.
Invitations
While you've got the style of your wedding invitation all taken care of, make sure you get the details right. You might want to mention your wedding location should you have an inclement weather plan. Also, if your wedding is outside, let your guests know so they can plan accordingly for the weather.
Late March can be a bit chilly and April can be forward to those 'showers' that bring May flowers. Let your bright and cheery May wedding invitations brighten the day of your guests when then see them in the mail.
Reception menu
May is not quite summer time, but it can be time to incorporate lots of fresh flavors into your reception menu. Pick salads with fruit accents that will hint the looming summer days ahead. Check with your caterer or venue to find out what is in season in your area for the freshest and best tasting menu items. A May bar could include Mint Juleps – a favorite at the Kentucky Derby – Lemon drops and light chilled wines. Juices and sparkling water can be a refreshing seasonal option, too.
Weather
May weather is not exactly perfect, but it is definitely more likely to be warm and sunny. Do not be afraid to host your ceremony or reception outside, but have some indoor areas, too, for those who wish to escape the elements. Picking an outdoor location with an indoor 'plan b' is the best situation. If you do have an indoor option make a note on your invitation about your 'plan b' so guests know where to go in the event of inclement weather.
Let your romantic side shine with your May wedding. There are many opportunities to show off your style with the colors and patterns of the season. Mind the calendar for Mom's day and you'll have a lovely May wedding.
