All About Wedding Showers

[ad_1]

The bridal shower is a gift-giving affair where the bride is showered with gifts from the friends, relatives and the guests. It is a tradition born from past times when the dowry system was of high importance. During those times, it was very normal that the bride's father did not have enough money to give a dowry or if a girl was marrying a boy without the acceptance of the father, then in such cases in order to compensate for the dowry the family friends and relatives of the bride would give gifts to the couple so that these gifts could be accepted as dowry by the family of the groom. Here the girl could marry the boy of her choice without the pressure of her parents. The most obvious purpose behind the ceremony was to help the couple in setting up a house for themselves.

This custom is said to have its roots in the United States of America. The coordination of this event is generally taken care of by the bridesmaids with the maid or matron of honor taking the lead role. It is concerned to be against wedding etiquette if any other relatives of the bride host the event. It has also become a custom to return the favor with return gifts. These gifts can also personalize with the name of the bride along with the date of their wedding. The time of this custom to be performed is generally in the afternoon.

The bridal shower is a custom that is supposedly to be fun as well as practical at the same time. The main purpose of this ceremony is to help the bride and the groom to set up their house but the all-important reason is to help the bride spend some time with her family and close friends before the wedding. The main activities on the agenda are sharing of gifts, sharing of funny stories, meeting with friends and relatives, taking advice from elders and for the friends and relatives to show their support for the bride and the groom. These events are generally held in the afternoon time and also include games.
