For some, planning an engagement party can be just as stressful as planning their wedding. Though there is no need to be.

If you do not want the fuss, take the casual option for a backyard BBQ or buffet with your closest friends and family. This can be a great way to catch up with those who you have not seen for a little while enjoying some cold beverages.

Have you thought about invitations? For a formal engagement party you would be better for a formal invitation where if you were having a backyard BBQ you could get away with a phone call, SMS or handwritten invitation would be appropriate.

What about the formalities? Cutting of the cake? Toasts / speches? Showing off the engagement ring?

Do you wish to announce your engagement in the local newspaper?
