Natural Features of Somerset

[ad_1]

There's a lot to be said about the natural features left in our world in an age where technology, speed and state of the art trends dominate. In Somerset you will still find tranquility and peace, natural beauty, and more importantly, natural features. Burrow Mump is a perfect example; this ancient earthwork has the ruins of a church set above in Burrowbridge and is owned by the National Trust. Visitors get to climb the steep hill and encounter panoramic views of Somerset.

Then there's Ham Hill, a 400 acre natural piece of Somerset that offers marvellous views of the Levels, an ancient village and native woodlands. The Park is open to visitors and there are ranger services available.

An old Iron Age Fort, Brent Knoll, stands 449ft above sea level offering even more spectacular views of Somerset's countryside, whilst Culbone Church offers visitors to Porlock in Somerset a chance to step inside the smallest complete parish church in the country. The length is a mere 35ft while the width is just over 12ft. The church also houses the oldest bell in West Somerset.

Once you've had a gander at these pleasures, there are more in store. Tarr Steps proves to be a favorite for visitors year after year and there is little wonder why. Treat yourself to a spectacular view of Bluebells bedding the ground in Spring and marvel at the 'Clapper' bridge which has been in place since what is believed to be medieval times. The river runs through this beautiful, enchanted woodland making it a perfect resting place for a family picnic.

Glastonbury Tor, probably the most famous of all the natural features in Somerset remains as dramatic and evocative as ever. Standing proud at the peak are the remnants of the 15th C tower. Take the 20 minute walk up to the summit and you'll snatch views of not only Somerset but Dorset and Wiltshire too. Famed for being the resting place of King Arthur and legendary due to its New Age mysticism, Glastonbury Tor continues to be iconic and is not to be missed.

If you are a country loving, natural features, history enthusiast or merely enjoy the simpler things in life, Somerset offers a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where the pace is that bit slow, the sun shines that much brighter and the world is just a tad better .
