Outdoor wedding venues are ideal for intimate weddings with a reliably small group of people during the warmer months of the year. There is no better time to have an outdoor wedding than during either spring or summer when the beauty of nature comes alive again, although a fall outdoor wedding can be just as enjoyable. Couples who choose to have outdoor weddings tend to prefer the event to be simple and more casual than a standard wedding.
Depending on the different types of outdoor wedding venues, having a wedding outside is usually a lot more affordable. If you are in the beginning stages of planning your wedding and would like to have a small wedding in the spring or summer without spending a fortune, outdoor weddings come highly recommended. The thing to watch out for however, is that the venue itself may be inexpensive, but there may or may not be additional expenses you have to cover. For instance, most indoor wedding venues have all of the necessary tables and seating available. Depending on what kind of outdoor venue you decide on, you might have to look into rents of such things.
It is extremely important when looking at outdoor wedding venues to think about your guests. How many are there going to be? If you have a general idea of the number of people attending, then you should be able to decide whether or not the venue is big enough. Also, not everyone is as comfortable being outdoors. Will the weather be too hot on the date you set your wedding? Is it during allergy season? Is the area going to be full of mosquitoes or other annoying bugs? These are all things you should find out before you book the place for your wedding. If you have your heart set on the venue and some of the circumances are unavoidable, it's best to be prepared. On your invitations suggest a proper dress code for that particular time of year. Make sure you have citronella candles or other bug repellent tools available to keep the critters at bay.
Another major unforeseen circumstance that may put a damper on an other festive occasion is the sudden change in weather. There is no way to predict if the weather will hold up on your wedding day. The best way to deal with a bad situation is to be prepared. Always have some kind of backup plan when dealing with outdoor wedding venues. A lot of couples choose a venue with both outdoor and indoor facilities. They have their ceremony outdoors and then move the reception inside. If the weather does not permit a perfect outdoor ceremony, make arrangements for everything to be inside. If there is no indoor facility in the area to move your wedding, make sure either the venue has tents and canopies available or take it upon yourself to have them ready in case they are needed.
There are plenty of other things to consider. If the reception is outside as well, are the caterers equipped to set up? What about the music? Would it be convenient for the band to play? Can you create a makeshift bar outside or do you have to find another way to serve drinks? Also in the event that you choose a city park or other government controlled venue, make sure you get a permission and ask about their policies on photography, trash removal, decorations, etc.
