If you are getting married in Devon in the UK, you will find the following article really useful. We’ve compiled some facts and our opinions of great wedding venues in Devon where we have provided our wedding photography services. These are our own opinions and others may differ and these are based on the quality of the venue and the location!

Bickleigh Castle is based just outside of Tiverton in North Devon and is one of the most romantic wedding venues in the south west. The castle is steeped in history with the sixth century chapel being listed as the oldest living building in Devon. The castle is bordered by ancient woodland and the river Exe overlooking Devonshire countryside to the south. It has a walled border including a small moat with several properties including thatched cottages within the enclosure. Magnificent gardens separate the castle from the river Exe providing an exceptional area for your wedding photography in Devonshire. Civil ceremony weddings can take place in the great hall, whilst church weddings take place in the sixth century chapel, this provides great flexibility for prospective brides and grooms in planning their big day.

Flexibility is one of the key features of this beautiful wedding venue in Devon. All weddings normally have exclusive use of the castle and its facilities including exclusive use of the castle and the estates from Friday to Sunday. Wedding breakfasts are catered for in the banquet room, the bar and dance room are available for entertainment, luxury accommodation is in several properties within the estate, drinks receptions can also take place on the lawn. The castle sits within an area of outstanding natural beauty, the village of Bickleigh is a quintessential Devonshire village with many thatched properties and some great family pubs to within walking distance of the castle itself. There are also further outstanding walks alongside the river Exe where you can view the beautiful Devon countryside and the natural surroundings.

The Saunton Sands Hotel sits above the northern end of the famous Saunton Sands beach in North Devon stretching over 5 miles of golden sands which is extremely popular with tourists, especially the surfing community. The beach is relatively unspoilt where the ravages of coastal erosion are left largely unchecked due to the mass of sand dunes behind the beach that offer future protection. The view from the Saunton Sands Hotel is therefore something special, looking out over 5 miles of golden sands, the Atlantic Ocean and the Braunton Burrows places the Saunton Sands Hotel in a unique situation making panoramic photography incredibly important.

The Hotel has a unique history and is now owned by the Brends family, it was a Commando training centre in the second world war which is coincidental to the recent move back to nearby Chivenor of the Royal Marines which was previously an RAF base. The training for the Normandy landings at Omaha was also centred at the Saunton Sands. The beach itself has been made famous appearing in several films and events, notably in the Robbie Williams video for ‘Angels’ and on the front cover of the synonymous Pink Floyd album cover for ‘A Momentary Lapse of Reason’ where over 700 cast iron hospital beds were placed on the beach!

There is no doubt about the credentials of the area for amazing wedding photography and this is more than complemented by the hotel. It has a very unique ‘art deco’ styling and dominates the skyline above the beach allowing guests uninterrupted views. The hotel is maintained to exceptional standards that you would expect from probably the top hotel in Devon. The internal styling fits in well with the history which is more than celebrated with several framed photographs of years gone past. The hotel also suits larger weddings and corporate events with the main dining room capable of seating a large wedding and the Saunton Suite also suitable for larger weddings and events.

The Buckerell Lodge sits just one mile from the very centre of the beautiful city of Exeter and yet tranquillity can easily be found in the extensive grounds making this a unique wedding venue in the heart of the capital city of Devonshire. The hotel itself is rapidly developing its status as a premier venue for weddings, parties and conferences with its recent award of four star status. This is no surprise given the extensive facilities that this modern hotel has to offer including free internet access and formal dining at the Raffles Restaurant where there is an emphasis on using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients in their food.

Buckerell lodge has a wide variety of suites to accommodate all types of weddings from small to large with banqueting suites for up to 80 people available. It also has a team of dedicated wedding coordinators to help organize the big day from the major components to the minor details including the meal and the choice of wines and drinks. This venue also holds its own civil ceremony wedding licence aqnd as such, the entire wedding can take place in just one location. The emphasis at the Buckerell Lodge is on detail, ensuring that even the smallest details are catered for to make your big day that extra special.

Set in 80 acres of stunning grounds in the heart of the classic Devon countryside and the meandering River Otter, the Deer Park Hotel is a quintessential English country house hotel on the edge of Honiton, where a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere combines with individually styled rooms, excellent service and exquisite food to create a truly unique destination.

The images you see here were taken at the Deer Park in Honiton which is a lovely wedding venue with large gardens which are perfect for wedding photography group shots and for enjoying your wedding day within. Christian Michael love the fact that this is a true country venue run by pleasant, relaxed staff in the heart of the Devon countryside. Perfect for small to medium sized weddings, the Deer Park is an ideal venue and within striking distance of Exeter, Somerset and Dorset as well as Honiton.

We hope that you have enjoyed our personal reviews of these four great wedding venues, look out for more wedding venue reviews in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset!
