A bridal shower is a pre-wedding party given for a bride-to-be before her wedding day. It is a gift-giving party where guests will provide shower gifts that can help the bride-to-be in her new life as a wife. This tradition originated in the United States, although there are some stories that this event have known to originate in Belgium. Bridal showers are typically planned by the maid of honor and bridesmaids, who prepare all stuff needed on the shower and encourage guests to give gifts for the bride and groom.

Traditionally, a bridal shower is hosted by the maid of honor. Because guests are required to bring gifts for the bride, some people consider it rude for a close member of the family to host the shower. However today, relative-hosted showers are now quite common and accepted. The bridal showers typically thrown four to six weeks before the wedding day.

In the process of planning a bridal shower, there are several considerations that should be taken into account. Although the party doesn’t need to be extravagant, the hostess would want to make the event as special as possible as a gift for the bride-to-be.

Planning this custom is not always easy, because there are several important decisions that are needed to be done. The first thing that should to be decided is the budget. It is very important to determine the budget first before planning anything else. Planning a bridal showers can be very expensive if not taken seriously. The organizer should decide how much she’ll be willing to spend, or, she may ask for contributions from others.

The hostess may come up with a themed bridal shower. There are so many shower themes to choose from, such as kitchen theme, garden theme, lingerie theme, round-the-clock theme, slumber theme and etc. When choosing a theme for the shower, the hostess should consider the interest of the bride-to-be. A good choice of shower theme can reflect the bride’s personality.

The kinds food and beverages for a shower party depends on the time of the day, or it can be related to the theme. For example, if it is a brunch gathering, then the menu could be French toast, pancakes, hash browns, sandwiches and salads, accompanied by coffee, and often by a Mimosa, champagne, Bellini, or a Bloody Mary.

Playing games is also included in a bridal showers. Games come into play after everyone had refreshed. Traditional games like bridal shower bingo and trivia games about the bride and groom are often played on a bridal shower. The winners get to have their prizes after playing the games. Just like any occasion where souvenirs were given away, a bridal showers also distribute bridal shower favors to thank all the guests. Just like bridal shower invitations, bridal showers favors should also chosen accordingly. For example, if it is a beach themed bridal shower, then choose invitations and favors that also have that theme.
