Wedding Favors

[ad_1]

Last year, I attended a wedding reception with some very creative favors at each place setting. The bride and groom had each lived in quite a few different states in their twenty-plus years on this earth. They decided to remember each of those states with the advantages at their reception.

At each place setting was a type of candy wrapped in white netting and tied with white ribbon. Attached the favors was a cut-out of the state it represented. For Ohio, the candy within was called, "Buckeyes." The Michigan favors contained chocolate covered cherries. The states of Texas and Colorado were also among the states where the couple had stayed, and favors with candies that pointed to these locations were at some of the place settings. I could not help but think, "How creative!"

While working at a major department store and assisting in the bridal section of the store, I learned about another couple's creative table décor and favors. They had only lived in one state. But they had known each other since childhood and had visited many local attractions together and separately.

This couple designed advantages that depicted each of the local attractions that felt were important to them and to the locale. There were museums, amusement parks, county parks, and movie theaters represented. These favors also included candies – candies that would have been found at each location. For instance, the favors representing the amusement park included small amounts of cotton candy or tiny candied apples. The movie theater favors contained small boxes of candies that one could find at any movie theater. Again, how creative was that?

Too often, planning a wedding means conforming to local or family or faith traditions, leaving very little opportunity for creativity for the bride and groom. Sometimes, how a wedding is planned or how it turns out depends upon which wedding planner or florist is popular (and used) at the time and in your location. Weddings planned by those same individuals often end up being almost mirror images of each other.

Just a few simple ideas can make all the difference. Reception table décor or favors made entirely because of something the bride and groom shared can make the reception entirely different from others at the same time of year or in the same general area.

And as an added benefit, it gives some of those people what you wanted to include in your wedding and reception activities something with which to help. After all, how many people do you really need pouring punch or serving cookies?

Put your thinking caps on today. Surely there is some place or event that stands out in your dating or courtship history that could be documented with just a few simple table favors.
