When you think of having your wedding reception in a tent, you may be thinking of simple barbeque on tables covered with plaid tablecloths, under a simple tent identified on the grass to shield all from the sun and rain. This tent may have a center pole or frame with no sides to block your view of the great outdoors or your parent's backyard.
What if your tent allowed for an elegant wedding along a pond? Just steps away from a vine covered arbor for your outdoor Colorado mountain ceremony? Tents have a funny connotation due because of their association with the circus or camping trips. But, just because your reception takes place in a tent does not mean that it must be rustic or simple.
I have seen a tent that has custom windows to view the outside, yet the paneled side walls can be opened as needed or desired. A tent can even have chandeliers controlled by dimmers to enhance the mood or "turn up the lights". What about a tent with a green carpeted floor (to bring the outside in) except for the inset dance floor? All this, plus tables for guest seating, stylish white folding chairs and assorted options for buffets, cakes, bar areas and a head table. And, all this in a tent!
Of course, just as in a ballroom, the inside of a tent can be decorated in a myriad of ways. You can use colored table cloths or cloth accents over white cloths. Floral or themed centerpieces, chair covers, wedding favors and floating candles or just a few items that add a personal touch. You can add décor by swagging cloth drapes over the windows or by the careful placement of foods such as by setting up your buffets and cake tables in a specific way.
Flanking the tent or behind it, out of sight of guests, can be easy access for various vendors, especially caterers. Your catering team can set up a barbeque or just have a staging area for the elegant plated dinner. Your musicians can have their vehicle (s) close by for easy access to equipment. And other vendors can drive close to deliver cakes, flowers and beverages and then leave before the party begins.
Yet, unlike in a banquet hall, the great outdoors surrounding the tent allows guests to wander away from the tent, if they wish, to take advantage of the scenic country surroundings or have a smoke. And if the weather will not cooperate with your outdoor ceremony, this reception tent can quickly be converted for your "indoor" ceremony out of the rain, as tables are moved to the sides and the dance floor is set with chairs. When the ceremony concludes, a transformation back to banquet tent is just a few minutes away.
So, consider a rented reception for your wedding. It can still be as elegant or simple as you desire.
