A Kosher Wedding is a Jewish wedding that follows all the traditions and rules defined by Orthodox Judaism. Although there are many different groups of orthodox Jews, all of which have their own unique rules and traditions (minhagim), the most common rules of a kosher wedding are as follows.
Modesty
A: Wedding Gowns & Party Dresses
Most orthodox weddings require that the bride wear a gown that is fully covered, modest (tznius) and therefore any sleeveless gown design is typically altered and fabric will be added on to accommodate the orthodox ceremony. Often to save money bridal gowns are rented and a secondary top is used to complete the demands of a modest gown. Although most wedding gowns are long and have an attached train, gowns with a short cut style are expected to be long enough to cover the bride's knees.
Modesty rules also apply to the gowns and dresses of the family and guest. Depending on the particular orthodox group the family belong to them may or may not be strict about what the guest are wearing.
B: Hair & Wigs
Married orthodontics women have to cover their natural hair and often will wear a wig or hat. On the night of her wedding, most brides will be wearing their natural hair since they are not yet considered married by Jewish law. Again this depends by what group of orthodoxy the couple belongs to. Guest are expected to cover their hair according to their personal traditions and customs.
C: Separate Seating
At most orthodox weddings men and women will be separated separately and often may even have their own entrances. It is common for kosher weddings to have a section of mixed seating to accommodate guest who are unfamiliar with the setting of strict orthodox Jews. At most weddings there is a decorative divider separating the men and women and it is common for the women to look over to the men's side to watch them dance.
Kosher Food
Also at a kosher wedding the food must strictly be kosher and wedding sites, halls, venues and locations where kosher is not served an outside caterer will be hired to prepare the food accordingly. A kosher kitchen will then be set up at the venue where the food will be prepared. Some stricter and larger kosher caterers will prepare all the food at their strictly kosher in-house catering facilities and then heat the food at the wedding venue in their own portable ovens.
Who makes a kosher wedding?
Kosher weddings Most often are made by orthodox Jews including, modern orthodox, hassidic, yeshivish, and traditional. Quite often because of their religious or orthodox relatives, nonorthodox couples will also make a kosher wedding in order to accommodate their extended kosher and orthodox family.
