For instance, a raw fabric like raw silk would be less cheap than refined silk, taffeta or satin. Wedding dresses are and could be made using different types of fabric. Tulle is probably the least expensive fabric that may cost only up to $4 per yard. Chiffon comes in second to tulle and costs up to $30 for every yard. Organza may cost up to $60 per yard; silk is up to $250 per yard and lace may come at $600 for every yard. Of course one may choose from the various qualities of these fabrics and with some amounts of resourcefulness, the bride may even get great deals on the internet for some cheap but quality fabrics. In addition, the amount of fabric used will also affect the overall cost of the dress. Wedding gowns usually have trains and the longer the train; the more fabric will be needed.
The third factor that affects the cost is the gown’s detailing. The beadwork, add-ons and embroidery of the wedding gowns all contribute to the total cost. The more detailed embroidery or beadwork that the bride requires, the more expensive she will need to pay.
Brides, however, are not limited to using the typical bridal gowns and dresses complete with crinolines and train. Budget conscious brides and those whose weddings are not the usual formal wedding events, may look at other available dresses in department stores and dress shops to find their suitable wedding dresses. At about $200, there would be a fabulous evening dress made with synthetic fabric on the rack of the department store.
A bride may also have her wedding dress custom made for her with less amount of detailing. Such simply embellished dresses may also be found in some bridal boutiques up to $1,000.
There might also be some additional costs that will add up to the cost of the gown. There might be some needed alterations on the dress. A minor nip and a bodice tuck would cost about $20. The more elaborate and detailed the alterations are, the higher the fee. Ordering the gown at a rush period will also cost more. The wedding dress must be ordered up to 5 months before the wedding date. Rush fees are usually up to 25% more.
