Today, wedding showers are not what they used to be. Women are getting married later in life, and many have been supporting themselves for some time, or may be getting married again. Showers used to only be given for first-time brides and the guest list only included women. Today, the guest list can include men and couples. The old rules regarding showers are being tossed out the window and new rules are emerging. Basically, there really are no rules and you can have any kind of shower that you want. Why not? You are, after all, celebrating your wedding and you should be able to have whatever kind of party you want to have.
The first thing you need to do is set a date and a time for the party. Be sure to check with the bride (and the groom if he will be there) to see what time and date is best for her. Most wedding showers are held one month before the wedding. Try not to schedule the shower any later than that because the bride will be extremely busy at this time and you want to be sure to give her enough time to send out her shower thank you cards.
When creating the guest list, be sure to ask the bride (or groom if he will be included) who she would like to include. You can get all of the contact information from the bride or her mother. You want to make sure to include everyone that the bride (or groom) would want to have at the shower.
A surprise shower is not recommended. The bride will have too many things going on to have to stop and have an unscheduled party with a large group of guests. You can plan a surprise party for another time.
When you send out the invitations, be sure to allow enough time for the guests to mail the reply back to you. Also, be sure to provide a map of directions to the house where the shower is being held. You want to make sure that the day of the shower goes very smoothly and everyone is able to arrive to the shower on time.
These are the things that you need to think of when preparing to throw a wedding shower. It is important to make sure that the bride has no stress during this time. The wedding shower will allow her to relax and spend time with friends and family.
