Plaid has been in fashion, in one sense or another, for many years. In fact, if you look into Scottish culture, which we can thank for the striped and checked style, you would see that you could even tell where a man came from and what clan he belonged to just by the pattern that he wore.
Today, it is in the fashion scene everywhere from pants to plaid coats. While sometimes not always at the height of fashion in any one year, with it's ending qualities there is no sign that it's popularity in different garments will fade anytime soon.
The blast onto the fashion world has been long and continuous. It seems that many people have a fascination with the pattern. No matter what age or your place of origin you can not help but feel drawn to certain aspects of it's design. No matter what colors you like there is always a plaid for you. And clothing manufacturers are picking up on this trend and running with it.
You have to give the people what they want and it seems that this is clearly it. That's why some of the new spring and summer lines this year has brought it back in full swing. What we used to associate with a schoolgirl uniform from years past is being featured in every area from music videos to advertisements. No doubt plaid coats will make the scene come winter as well.
So where did this obsession come from? Well, plaid has been in use for thousands of years and in some cultures it is not only a trend, but a way of life. Several European cultures find it as appealing now as it was centuries ago. And when the designers that have such an influence on what the public wears decision to include it in their lineups, then it just further gains it's allure. In fact, when this happens you will find it hard not to find plaid.
Outerwear has always been a favorite way for designers to express their styles and this year has been no exception. You can find plenty of options in heavy jackets and flannel shirts. There are even parts of the nation that have more of a taste for it than others.
For instance, lumberjacks have always been portrayed as a lover of plaid as this is typically what their outwear consists of. Many of those who work outside will have more than one flaid flannel shirt in their closet and plaid coats will be found in the closet of many an outdoor enthusiast as well.
No matter if it is for business or rugged work environments, plaid is here to stay. It may be in flaid flannel shirts or plaid coats or even flaid skirts but no matter what you will be able to find something in plaid to suit your tastes.
