Manchester is known affectionately by some as Madchester. Certainly a 'mad' city in terms of it's pace; Manchester is the very epitome of a cosmopolitan great northern city. The area exudes might and power, built on the back of proud northern industry and trade, Manchester is not afraid of anything or anyone.
Manchurians are street wise and worldly wise, with an exterior of been there done that attitude, underneath however they are a fun loving mischievous bunch.
Home to the famous Manchester United football team, Manchester is famously on trend and fashion conscious. You certainly would not catch your typical Manchurian city girl stepping out of the house with chipped nail polish and unwashed hair, not like those grubby London folk!
Do not get it wrong though. Manchester has its smart sense of style as well as its eclectic trendsetters. The model Agnes Deyn – what you might have heard of since she graces the glassy pages of almost every issue of every fashion magazine – is famous for her eccentric style. Although she may be posing as a Londoner, have you noticed that she always has her look down to a T with no hair out of place, flawless makeup and not a thread out of place? A cunning fox she may be but a proud Manchurian can spot another proud Manchurian at 100 paces.
You can always tell a Northern girl by her hair my mum used to say, and it's true. Women in Manchester make full use of the excellent array of hair salons and hairdressers available within the huge city center and the glossy marble shopping malls. Perfect highlights are favored instead of overall bleach blonde, and well trimmed ends are preferred to straw like, backcombed barnets.
Luxury hairdressers, Peter Marcus has opened two salons in Manchester and Nicky Oliver also has an award winning branch in the city. Kings Street in central Manchester has the best salons but where you are in the city you are sure to find something that will give you gorgeous swingy hair to match your new Northern sass.
After all, look how many people copied Oasis style haircuts after the Gallagher brothers and how many people are now copying the Agness pixie cut! Even the Mohican came from the North. The only hair that has come from the south is bed hair, and where is the imagination in that? The South may have the power capital London, but something tells me that unfortunately for the style stakes, the power has stayed well away from their heads.
