STAGING YOUR COMEBACK-A Complete Beauty Revival for Women Over 45 by Christopher Hopkins. The author, who has over 20 years of beauty experience and secrets to unveil is known as "The Makeover Guy".
Let me start by saying this how to book is not for those who want a "quick fix" to looking better. The steps are simple. But they do take time to accomplish. And there are a lot of steps to take. I also have to say, since this was the second how to beauty book for older women that I received to review in less than a week, I was not sure how this made me feel. I was not sure if I wanted to laugh or cry!
Along with taking the initial steps suggested, Hopkins admits that you have to keep up the procedures with daily, weekly and monthly maintenance. Simply put-this book is completely your ticket to looking terrific in what he calls "our second acts" if you have the time and money it takes to see it through. He is an entertaining writer and reading his tips went very quickly. I absolutely loved the before and after pictures. I enjoyed the different quizzes to find out what body type you had, what personality you held, etc …. All of these are provided to help you pick out the right hair, make-up, clothing styles and anything else Hopkins deems appropriate for all us "older women" to re-set our standards towards looking better.
The book gives helpful suggestions on how to circumvent some of the natural aging process with and without cosmetic surgical procedures.
According to the author, writing this book was a labor or love-his love of helping women who want to look their very best, but are too busy to spend the time putting it altogether. He says "I do not see a woman for what she should be, I see a woman for who she can be."
He dedicates the book to his parents-mostly his mom, who taught him most of what he knows about the beauty of women.
What he wants is for the women who read his book to learn several things:
How to recharge their beauty battery (he calls this the 4 A's)
How to reinvigorate their passion for fashion with what he terms the Big 5
How to revamp a wardrobe so that it flatters the changing body
How to refresh their face with "visible lift" makeup techniques
And last-how to renew their spirit and maintain the new look with their own own "Revival Guide".
I'm not going to elaborate here, but as I mentioned the book is written with great humor and is a quick read!
The book is categorized into various sections with quizzes, hints, clues and a variety of ways to achieve it all. Now I have to admit, I will not use a few of the chapters, I just do not care to get up any earlier than I already do to prepare for sitting in front of my computer and writing all day-but I will see if I can use some of the suggestions to talk my husband into thinking it's a great idea for me to spend some of our meager budget for that weekly manicure and the monthly pedicure / facial and massage he talked about! Not that I'll get to do it, but at least I'll have tried to "visibly lift" and flatter my changing "over 45" body.
