After a year's worth of preparation, my wedding day finally arrived. All that needed to happen now was for my future wife and our guests to turn up. I planned my wedding meticulously leaving no stone unturned. I was determined to ensure that the day would go down without a hitch.
So, exactly what was involved in my wedding planning? Here is a brief outline of planning a wedding my way!

After deciding on your budget, it is time to pick a venue and a date. This is also the time to start working on your guest list. The number of guests you invite will obviously be determined by your budget.

If your venue does not offer catering, now would be a good time to organize the catering and entertainment for the day. To ensure guests from out of town will be able to attend your special day, book a block of hotel rooms.

Organize a dress for the bride and a morning outfit for the groom. While you're at it, now there would be a good time to go shopping for the bridesmaids' dresses. Book a florist and arrange any transportation needed for the day.

Find a stationer and order your invitation cards. Select a baker and order the cake as some bakers require a few months notice in advance. Organis dress fittings and book a time for a rehearsal at the venue for around 6 weeks before the wedding. Also, start thinking about what sort of music you would like at the wedding – the music during the reception should be different to the music which will kick off the dancing at the end of the day.

Now is a good time to purchase the rings as it leaves sufficient time for any re-sizing which may be necessary. If you want people to give toasts, make a list of the guests you want to have do this and incorporate it into your program for the day. The venue and caterers should also be made aware of the day's program to avoid any confusion!

Meet with the wedding photographer and discuss which shots you want him or her to take. At 2 months, it is also customary to send out the invitations and for the best man or maid-of-honor to organize respect stag and hen parties.
Check all the RSVP's and contact those who have not replied yet. It is important at this stage to have a clear idea of who is coming. If both of you would like to say personal vows to each other, write those. Purchase the bridesmaids gifts.
1 week before
Meet up once again with the wedding photographer to ensure he or she knows exactly what photos to take on the day. Have the wedding rehearsal and enjoy your respect stag and hen parties (but it is best to enjoy these a few days before the wedding so you have a little time to recover!).
On the day
Relax and enjoy yourself! You have worked hard to organize this day over the past year, so the least you can do now is actually enjoy it.
