Each year, the tried and true wedding methods and techniques seep their way into weddings, and each year new trends erupt to test the waters. But what does 2007 hold for brides in the U.S.? A lot of flair and taking a walk away from tradition. Brides are stepping out of the so-called box and making their day unique and memorable for not only themselves but the guests as well.
Wedding Gown Renovation
Of course each year is filled full of new colors, but now brides are carrying colors onto their dresses as well. Using a bow or embellishment to add a touch of color to the traditional dress creates a type of modern flair for 2007 brides. A twist on the favored
classic will not only enhance the dress but also keep guests staring in wonder. Even venturing into unique designs on the back of the dress will keep guests’ attention on you during the entire ceremony. Vintage dresses are setting the scene as well. Think of
your dress as a work of art!
Giving Bridesmaids A Say
The wedding dress is not the only area of attire to have some changes come its way. Bridesmaids’ dresses will no longer make your best ladies cringe or your guests laugh; giving power to the bridesmaids is what many brides have started doing this year. If you want to set a color scheme and let the bridesmaids go crazy, go for it! After all they are the ones spending the mullah and the ones stuck with the dress at the end. Set a color and let them pick from strapless, to off the shoulder, to spaghetti straps and watch them get excited! It’s very rare that all of your bridesmaids have the same body type; so allowing them to choose a flattering dress will not only make them look better, but make your wedding look better too.
Dessert Comeback
When you picture a wedding cake, the same picture usually comes to mind. A white buttercream/fondant cake with either some flowers or other décor. Things are a little different in 2007. Desserts are making a comeback and cake is not the only dessert
served during the reception. Cupcakes decorated with the main wedding cake design are hitting the stage as alternatives to the multi-tiered cakes. Even chocolate fountains, truffles, brownies and the like have their own table at the reception. It’s a sweet
occasion, so celebrate it with as many sweets as possible.
Giving the Guests a Show
Many brides are so concerned with planning the logistics of their wedding day, they completely forget about the guests. Of course this is the bride’s day and no one else should be fretted, but in 2007 couples are creating more than just the traditional ceremony and reception for guests. Referred to as “down time,” the lull when photos are consuming the couple’s attention can often create an unsettling time for guests. During this time period couples are beginning to give the guests something to talk bout. Showing a slideshow, hiring a band, even hiring an entertainer are some new additions to the reception menu. Perhaps setting up a photo booth for your guests, providing a scrapbook page to decorate or simply providing disposable cameras can make a world of difference in how the guests remember your wedding day.
Personalization
Today brides and grooms want to display their own sense of style and taste throughout their wedding. Personal touches will be seen around every corner, showing the guests the true nature of the couple. Personalizing menus, chocolate favors, cameras, wedding attire and décor will help create a uniform theme throughout the wedding. Think about using the same border or theme that was presented on your invitations on your wedding menus, place cards or programs.
A Grand Exit
Along with the traditional white limo, modes of transportation are evolving in 2007. Vintage cars, stretch SUV’s, horse drawn carriages, hot air balloons and even boats are carrying couples away after the celebrations have ended. Think of how you want to make your grand exit and go for it! Remember this is the last impression you will make on your guests.
Where to Get Wed
Getting married in the chapel is not the only place to get wed nowadays. The trend towards destination weddings and wedding at various locations such as country clubs, resorts, spas, public gardens, yachts, B&B’s, hotels and more expand wedding ideas/themes into limitless possibilities. Venues have started to take notice and have even began offering special wedding packages which give you the entire kit and caboodle for one set price. Picture just showing up with your wedding gown in hand
and groom on your arm, and leave the rest to them!
Invitation Styles
Thinking green has become a national epidemic of choice in 2007. Spread the greenness into your wedding invitations by thinking of alternative methods to invite guests. Using one envelope versus two, axing the tissue, printing on recycled paper or
even adopting send-n-seals are new trends for this year. Send-n-seals are the package deal. Your wedding invitation and response card are printed on one sheet and folded for the address to be printed on the outside. You even save stamps because the response card only requires a postcard stamp! Think about mother earth when sending out those crucial invites!
