Traditional Style Wedding Favors For a Traditional Wedding Theme

[ad_1]

If you are having a formal, traditional wedding then you will need to think about wedding favors which match the formality and tradition you seek. Wedding favors themselves are as traditional as marriage itself and although many think they are a modern invention, they actually date back as far as the 13th century.

Finding traditional wedding favors is not very difficult and in fact are one of the easiest styles of favor to pull off. Much can depend on your budget, however there is something to suit all budgets and which will make beautiful memorable favors. Here are a few suggestions to inspire you:

Almonds are the oldest type of wedding favor around, although the first wedding favors were sugar cubes, which back in the 13th century where a scarce commodity and only afforded by the wealthy. Today, although I doubt your guests would be very impressed with a gift of sugar cubes, no matter how prettily you packaged them!

Once sugar became a more affordable commodity, wedding favors were filled with almonds which would have had a sugar coating applied. The promise being that they represent the bitter-sweetness of marriage, the sugar being the sweetness and the bitter almond being the bitterness. You can find almonds in many forms today including plain, sugar coated or candy covered in a range of colors to correspondate to your wedding. They are also very easy to package in small favor boxes, tulle nets or organza bags. Traditionally, almonds would be packaged in three's or five's representing health, wealth, happiness, fertility and longevity.

Miniature wedding bells make for a fun and traditional style of favor. Available in a range of styles and in gold or silver colors, the idea is that your guests must ring them each time you enter the room, where upon the two of you must kiss. They are inexpensive and look very cute placed at each table setting with a simple tag attached to the top.

Candles are a very popular choice for wedding favors and the best choices are tea lights or votive candles. If you give tea lights try to find a nice decorative holder for them as they look rather meager simply presented in their aluminum tins! Votives can stand on their own, but again they make a much better favor when accompanied by a nice holder. Scented candles can be nice alternative to unscented versions, and of course they come in many different colors so are easy to coordinate.

Chocolate dragees offer a sweet alternative to almonds and come in much wider range of colors and sizes. Candy coated or foil covered you can find a color choice to match and as an alternative to the almond shape you will find heart shaped versions too. These can be bought in bulk quantities very inexpensively, meaning you will not have to skimp on the amount you place in each favor.
