Ever wonder what's a wedding like in Africa? How different is an American wedding from an Indian Wedding? Do you want to know the different wedding traditions around the world? It is certainly different from one place to another. Some are extremely bizarre. Some are even outrageously hilarious. No matter how matrimony goes in different countries, it still ends up with a couple tying the knot. It's the time wherein they finally say their vows and commit to a life long relationship. So here are some wedding customs in various countries.
1. Australia
Things are different in Oceania. Their traditions here are exciting and vibrant. Most of their customs are borrowed from the traditions of Great Britain. After all, they were colonized by this country. So what makes their matrimony different? They make sure that there is a wedding keepsake bible that is passed down from generation to generation. Surely, they are deeply moved to their religion. They also include some Aboriginal customs. They sometimes include a warrior challenge. It is often lead by a Maori tribal elder. He gives blessings in a Maori language to the couple.
2. Mexico
In a country where all men and women are beautiful, marriage is something special for them. In a conventional type of marriage ceremony, a white ribbon is tied up around the neck of the couple loosely. Moreover, the groom gives a dowry which is 13 gold coins. Most of the ceremonies are conducted by a priest as most Mexicans are Roman Catholics. During the reception, the couple dances in front of their guests. Their guests however have to form a heart around them. Also, they have a piñata hung from the ceiling. It is filled with sweet trees for the guests and children to share.
3. Latvia
After a girl says yes to getting married, it is a tradition to have the wedding date published inn their local newspaper. The engagement usually takes six months long. It is customary for the bride to wear her dress and veil until midnight. After that, the veil has to be removed from the head of the bride. It will then be passed on to her younger sister. It is presumed that she is to marry next. The reception is a large feast. It is the perfect time to rejoice. The fever is full of great music and a whole lot of toasting. It usually lasts for eight hours. There's dancing, singing and merry making. However, the first dance goes to the newlyweds.
4. Philippine Islands
Engagement traditions are quite big in the Philippines. A man would have to go to the bride's house and meet her family. They would bring in food and gifts as the groom requests permission from the bride's family for her hand in marriage. The bride has to wear her best white dress. There are plenty of sponsors and god parents wherein they have different responsibilities. When it comes to the reception, the couple has to dance the Pandango. As they dance, guests pin money to their clothes.
