Choosing Wedding Cake Toppers

[ad_1]

The majority of couples choose to have a cake at their wedding, and most will opt for a wedding cake topper. This article looks at some different types, with some suggestions for choosing one.

Wedding cake toppers are the models which can often be seen placed on the top of a wedding cake. Their use dates back to around the 1950s, and back then would have shown the bride in a long white wedding dress plus veil, and the groom wearing a black suit.

Nowadays there are less formal alternatives to choose from, such as humorous toppers. Sometimes these toppers show the couple doing their hobby, or alternatively the couple in a funny situation.

There is a much larger range of designs than the 1950s, including same-sex toppers and several different ethnic backgrounds to choose from.

Some couples like to choose a monogram topper, where the couple's initials are used to make the design.

If the wedding is a themed one, a design based on the wedding theme can be used. For example, if the couple are having a Western-themed wedding, the topper could depict the couple as a cowgirl and cowboy on horseback, or show the bride lassoing the groom.

Designs can also be matched to the venue for the wedding, eg for a beach wedding you can have a wedding cake topper with model starfish and shellfish, or a couple standing barefoot on the beach.

For those who prefer not to have a model couple on their wedding cake, alternatives include horseshoes, humorous animals or heart shapes.

You can even buy a sports-themed cake topper showing the couple taking part in motor racing, football, ice hockey, skiing, golf or fishing.

Making the right choice of cake topper is a large matter of having it match the style of wedding you have chosen. Traditional designs suit more traditional wedding styles, and them weddings should ideally have designs which refer to the theme. More formal weddings can use the humorous types, but there are no strict rules and you can choose which you prefer.

Couples who are having difficulty agreeing on any one design may find that monogram cake toppers are an easier option. They'll match pretty much any style of wedding. There is such a large range of designs available to choose from today that there really should be one to suit every wedding, and it can even be fun to browse through the different types.
