The vintage women's apron is back! Aprons have always enjoyed a timeless popularity due to their usefulness, but it has been many years since they have seen such style.
How did the feminine apron suddenly emerge out of all the modern feminist influences? Somehow, perhaps as a rebellion against feminism, true femininity has made a comeback. You can see the evidence of this is many current trends. Literature is currently overflowing with novels and books for women, which have become their own genre, known as "chick lit." Feminity in home decor and interior design is popular now, as well. Target's "Shabby Chic" line is a prime example, with its florals and soft pastels.
Decades ago women took great pride in lovingly crafting their own aprons, and wearing them until they were threadbare. However, collecting authentic vintage aprons is only a small part of the current trend in aprons. Apron designers seem to be proliferating, to the point where adorable vintage style aprons can be found everywhere from the local craft fair, to kitchen stores, to chic dress shops.
As if a cute new apron were not enough, you will need to get accessories for your apron. These mostly come in the form of oven mitts made of a matching fabric, or colorful rubber gloves with a ruffle around the wrist. Weaving the full ensemble will not only make you feel like a tru 1950s housewife, but will have quite an effect on your guests as well.
Go ahead and host a dinner party, then open the door for your guests in your little vintage apron. You will look quite the picture! Your friends will get the picture that you have slaved away in the kitchen, making an absolutely delicious home-cooked meal. Hopefully, you can live up to their expectations!
When it is time for dinner, you can remove your apron and fold it and put it away or hang it up. Of course, you will have the perfect party dress on underneath your apron, and you will look perfect in every way. You can be the most gracious hostess your friends have ever experienced.
Just remember that the moment that apron comes off, you are to enjoy yourself! The hard work is over, and your main goal is to entertain your guests and make them feel comfortable.
