Great Hairstyles For African American Women!

[ad_1]

Now that I have natural hair, my thoughts about great hairstyles have changed. My preference is for easy styles that stay for at least a couple of days. My hair type is 4B. Those of you with natural African-American hair know what that means. It's a kinky hair type. Two of my great hairstyles are as follows:

  1. Twist-out : A curly hairstyle that works well with natural hair and will not frizz if done properly.
Instructions –Wash, condition and de-tangle hair. Apply leave-in conditioner. Part into small sections. Take one section at a time and make sure hair is soaking wet. Re-wet section by section if necessary. Apply a small amount of a natural oil to the section (eg olive, johoba, coconut). Apply hair gel to the section. Split section into two pieces. Twist the two pieces of together. Repeat with one small section at a time until all hair has been done. Sit under the dryer for about an hour or let air dry for as long as it takes. Undo the twist and do not comb out. You may split each half of the twisted hair once to achieve a fuller look.
  2. Updo : This style requires the hair to be pinned into a style such as a French roll.
Instructions –For best results, first de-tangle and blow-dry washed and conditioned hair. I do a side part and brush the smaller side back to the center of my nape and place hairpins (closed-ended) in a vertical line beginning at the nape up to the crown area. I then brush the other side back so that it will cover the row of bobby pins that I just inserted. I tuck the hair under so that no ends are showing and the pins are covered. Pin the tucked hair. Here is where a lot of pins (the open-ended ones) are needed. Good quality hairpins help because if pinned properly, they are definitely noticeable and hair will stay in place.

There you have it. Two great styles that will last for at least a couple of days.
