Your prom hair style does not have to be really complicated to look good. Some teens will make appointments with their stylists months in advance (stylists book up quickly) to make sure they have the perfect prom hair style.

But with a little bit of work, you can create your prom hair style right at home, no appointment required. And you can look just like those that went to the salon.

A popular hair style this year is what is called the ponytail updo. But this is not just any ponytail. To create the ponytail updo, first apply a styling cream to damp hair, then flip your head over and blow-dry.

After your hair is completely dry, use a medium barrel curling iron, or hot rollers to create loose curls all over your head. Allow the hair to cool completely before moving on.

Next take small sections of hair at your crown and tease them gently by running a comb back and forth over the roots. Smooth over the top with a paddle brush. The hair in the crown area should now be poufy. Pull all the hair back into a side or low ponytail and tie it with a bungee band. The bungee band will not squish the volume that you have created with all the curls.

Finish off this style with a blast of shine serum for that extra shiny finish.

If you're not sure about this style, you can try to create it on your own a few weeks before the prom. It may take you a few practices to get the style to look just right for prom.
