Most people would assume that mens diamond rings would be gaudy, bulky items, worn as outrageous displays of wealth and cockiness. But there is a whole class of diamond rings for the man who wants to show off in a more demure and cultured way. There are usually three styles of rings that a man might wear that would feature a diamond in some way:
The Engagement Ring. Traditionally in modern Western culture, an engagement ring has been worn by women only. Usually crowned with a fair sized diamond, the engagement ring was something by which the value of the man, fairly or not, was judged by peers, friends and family of the woman he proposed to. But in this day and age, it is becoming more common for both men and women to wear an engagement ring. Many men are unaccustomed to wearing jewelery of any sort, so an engagement ring can be a "practice" ring that gets them used to having something on their finger. And it is a way for both of the couple to show their devotion to each other.
The Wedding Band. Again, tradition might attempt to dictate that a man's wedding band should be simple and plain, with no adornments or identifying features. It should be nothing but a band. But it should be considered that this band will be on his finger, every day, and hopefully for the rest of his life. Why should he – or anyone – settle for something that does not match their personality? If a man has the confidence to pull it off, a diamond diamond placed in the wedding band can add meaning, personal value, and a touch of style to an already important and significant piece of jewelery.
The Fashion Ring. Thankfully, we are moving further and further from the days where a man was only expected to wear a ring to show a school or club affiliation, or to symbolize his marriage. Today, there are many different styles of rings available for men who understand that a well-selected piece of jewelery on their finger can be the perfect accent to an outfit. A man who wears a ring for fashion is not limited by the narrow views of fashionless and humorless people – he is his own man, who apologizes to no one for his style.
Mens diamond rings are describing of a place on any man's finger, be it to celebrate his promises to the woman he is engaged to; declare his undying love for the woman he married; or simply display his good taste in a demure but powerful way.
