Weddings are always full of choices. Clothes, cake, gifts, invitations and decorations have to be chosen, ordered and paid for. It’s a lot of choices to make. However, most of those choices are made by the bride. Face it guys, weddings are more for the women than the men. Still, there are a few aspects of the wedding that are left to the men. The bachelor party goes without mention, but there is also the matter of the groomsmen’s gifts. Your groomsmen are your friends and brothers. They are your support group. They help you to make the transition from bachelor to married man with as little trepidation and as much fun as possible. They deserve the best thank you that you can give them. Luckily, you have the opportunity to do just that. Groomsmen gifts are as traditional as weddings and bachelor parties. They give you an excuse to show your groomsmen how much you appreciate them without it looking like a whole lot of mush.
But what do you get for these men who have helped you so much? What gifts are traditional and just how traditional do you want to be? Groomsmen gifts can be classified into three categories, The Classics, The Slightly Unconventional, and The Useful.
The Classics:
We’ll start with the classics. These are the most traditional groomsmen gifts. The embroidered handkerchief is one of the oldest of the classics. It was what your father’s father probably gave his groomsmen. If you’re having a very traditional wedding, you may want to give your groomsmen embroidered handkerchiefs. If that sounds too old fashioned for you, there are plenty of other ideas that are a little more interesting but still classic. Watches and pocket watches make great gifts. They’re traditional and useful. You could also give money clips, pocket knives, cuff links, or wallets. To make them more personal, you can have them engraved.
The Slightly Unconventional:
The slightly unconventional are a category of groomsmen gifts that are not quite as traditional as the classics, but still popular enough that they could be considered traditional gifts. The engraved Zippo lighter is one of the most commonly given gifts. It is quickly becoming one of the classics. An engraved cigarette case can be a nice gift, but it’s not for everyone. Personalized flasks and sports mugs can be both personal and useful. Personalized shot glasses are less expensive and less traditional but still growing in popularity.
The Useful:
Finally, there are the useful gifts. Unlike fancy handkerchiefs and engraved glass mugs, these gifts are meant to be used over and over again. This category includes things like shaving sets, tool kits, and even barbeque sets. These gifts are much less traditional but their usefulness makes them likely to be very well received. Lately, the popularity of such useful gifts has grown dramatically. People like to get gifts they can use.
In the end, the most important thing is that the gift you choose is somehow personal. Everything from shot glasses to barbecue sets can be personalized. Have your gift engraved, embossed, or yes, even embroidered and you will have a groomsman’s gift worth giving.
