For most brides, one of the primary duties in planning her wedding is finding the perfect gown. When you think you finally found “The Dress”, you then realize it is not that simple for you. It is because you are going to have a temple wedding and there are simple rules that you should follow, the traditional way.

For your wedding however, you want your wedding dress to be done reverently because you believe they are symbolic of your lasting vow to one another. Temple dresses in The Church of Jesus of Latter-Day Saints follow certain standards if you are to wear them in your wedding occasion.

White is the overall color accepted for the bride in a temple wedding. It symbolizes purity, virtue and cleanliness. Some brides even put their cloth to a test just to make sure that it is bond-paper white before it is bought or sewn. In cases where the bride-to-be already has a dress available, she may use the wedding dress but she has to alter the dress in order to conform to some church practices.

Your modest wedding dress must be long-sleeved. Some soon-to-be brides attempt to show some fashion style by wearing shorter sleeves but if the temple matrons and workers find it inappropriate, they will request that you wear sleeve extensions. If a woman’s collarbone and shoulders are showing, you will also be asked to wear a dickey, a detachable collar or blouse front, a fabric insert or they may even rent you a jacket that can be worn over or under the dress. Sheer fabrics must be lined with camisoles and sleeve liners. Slits reaching the knee-level are prohibited unless you have long slips or fillers for it. Veils and hats are not allowed. Long trains are also discouraged, but if your dress trail is long, you must be able to bustle it up or make it detachable or removable.

In the end, whatever extra effort you put in finding that perfect temple dress, the important thing is that your groom still thinks you are the perfect bride on that momentous day.
