The romantic song lyric
"Love is in the air
Everywhere I look around
Love is in the air "
sums up for me outdoor weddings, very succinctly, as outdoor weddings are very romantic I always have the feeling that love really is in the air. A loving couple matched with the beauty of nature, nothing can match the atmosphere.
However putting the romantic aspect on hold for a little while, arranging your reception outdoors, whilst being absolutely shunning, can have its issues in particular for all the ladies present. Retaining a graceful elegant look whilst having to deal with any number of unfortunate possibilities of heat, humidity, insects, wind and if you are really unfortunate showers can strain any girls resolution, in particular the bridal party (hopefully in your instance none of these will happen as 100's of brides do very year).
A few points here that will help you to stay cool calm and collected through
I generally suggest that we take things in the order that you will prepare yourself for your ceremony, in other words from the top down
Hair
The key to a good outdoor ceremony hairstyle is to keep it simple and elegant, when you are talking about your style with your hairstylist ensuring that everyone knows you are having an outdoor wedding ceremony. Get your hairstylist to fashion a look for you that means the least amount of maintenance and stand the stresses of possible heat maybe a bit of a breeze. Time spent at this stage will keep you looking your best through the ceremony and for the very important photos that will be around in the family for am eternity,
Tiara
Because you have decided on an outdoor wedding theme think about a simple circle or tiara of flowers, preferably fresh but if it is going to be hot there are some excellent silk flowers that will retain their, and your good, looks for the whole day. The veil could be a hazard especially if it is going to be hot, so if you if you absolutely have to have one, or a family tradition then go with it please do but suggest you keep it short and if you can have it so that it can be removed after you walk down the aisle
Makeup
Take your style from nature keep your makeup light and natural so that you do not start to'run 'if it gets too hot. The same goes for accessories and jewelry light and airy are better for the ceremony, it all helps to keep you cool
Wedding dress
Take a look at designs that incorporate natural fabrics that breath such as linen, cotton or a fine cotton voile all of these fabrics will allow your skin to breath and keep you looking and feeling cool and elegant. Select a design suitable for an outside wedding ceremony, I've said it before but simple elegance will rule the day go for a slightly tailored look that will not get blown around.
Shoes
Walking on grass, in high heels is something you will probably want to avoid, picture yourself falling down the aisle should persuade you to go with flat shoes or at least with a very low broad heal.
You are now set to look your best whatever the weather turns out to be on the day and this way you will need only the lightest touch ups before the photographs. Remember you are going to be looking at them for years so you need to look your best, have one of your bridesmaids keep a touch up kit with her so that you can do minor repairs to your hair and makeup.
Forward planning of you total look and style which you will have coordinated with the natural setting of your outdoor wedding will make the day less stressful and you will be able to enjoy your big day so much better. Have a great day!
