Preparing Your Hair For an Updo

[ad_1]

Long hair requires special care when you shampoo and brush. You don’t want to damage the hair before you have it styled. If you can, shampoo your hair standing up. This will reduce tangling. If you shampoo your hair before getting your updo, try it at home, standing up in the shower, using products recommended by your stylist. This way you arrive with clean, dry hair.

If you want your stylist to shampoo your hair, I’m sure they will use a good product or even a moisturizing shampoo. When you sit in the shampoo chair, your hair should go in the bowl and you should start by scrubbing the scalp. Our main goal is to prevent tangling. As you rinse the scalp, the shampoo will run to the ends and follow the shampoo out, as it will clean the long ends. The scalp is the dirty part and our goal is to keep from tangling your hair.

When drying long hair, don’t rub the hair, as this will cause matting. Start at the scalp and blot the hair dry. Do this in sections and when the towels get wet, get another dry towel. It will take several.

Before combing, you might consider a leave-in conditioner. This will make combing easier and will provide help keep the hair moist in dry heat or cold winter. When you start combing the hair, start at the ends and move up a little at a time. If you have already fixed your hair, your stylist may use a regular brush on your dry hair. If your hair is wet, we’ll need to dry it. If you have time, sit under a dryer for a few minutes to get rid of excess water. When you use a hair dryer, run your fingers through the hair from the scalp to the ends.

Ideally, when doing updo’s, you want to work with dry hair. If you use wet hair and have it fixed and braided, then when it dries, the hair will shrink, and possibly cause mild discomfort. If you have to work with wet hair due to the type or style you want, keep this in mind as it dries.

Preparing your hair correctly will start your updo off in the right direction for that special prom or wedding. Keep it tangle free, clean and dry and you be headed in the right direction.
