A best man is the chief male assistant to the bridgroom in a wedding. He is usually the best friend or the brother of the groom. His tasks include assisting the groom on the wedding; making sure that the rings to be used are safe until they are required in the ceremony; acting as a legal witness to the marriage; and suggesting a toast and giving out short best man speaks at the wedding reception.
A best man is required to make a toast and deliver a speech about the couple and the groom himself. This speech is about the groom and his personality for the most part. To write a best man speech, a best man should do a full research about the things he wants to form part of the speech. He may include important dates like how long the couple have known each other; when and how the two met; and how long he has been witness to the harmonic relationship of the newlyweds.
The speech of the best man should be about the groom, but this does not mean that it will not give due recognition to the bride. A best man should include a little of the bride's background in his speech so that she will receive the honor she deserves. A single paragraph about the bride may do.
Best man speeches are usually delivered in a funny way. But if the occasion requires a best man to deliver it casually or simply, he should do so. The things a best man should include in his speech are the background of the groom, his life, achievements, and funny facts about him. The best man is not prohibited to crack jokes and tell funny stories about the groom's old flames. However, he should ensure that his statements are light and safe to not make the groom look bad to his wife and the family of the bride. The next thing that should form part of a best man speech is the background and life of the groom itself. The best man may narrate how the groom is as a person, a friend, a boyfriend, a son to his parents, and how he will be as a husband to his wife. Achievements of the bridgroom may be included in a best man speech. A man would normally be happy and proud to hear the achievements he had had in his life. The bride would also be sure to be proud of her husband. Whatever the groom's achievements are in sports, academies, career, and relationships, he and the guests would certainly want to hear them in a best man speech. It is always best to flatter the man of the hour.
After a best man is through delivering most of his speech, he may end it with a life-long wish for the newlyweds. The best man can choose to make it funny and comical or to make it very formal. And when the speech is over, the best man can propose the toast for the newlyweds.
