Sometimes, if we are lucky enough, a truly romantic moment will happen when we least expect it. I believe the most romantic and intimate moments of our lives during during ordinary days when we do not expect something special from the person we love. Such was the case on a recent morning.
Like every weekday morning, the alarm sounded way before I was ready to wake from peaceful, much needed sleep, and as usual, I could not believe that it was already time to wake up and start a new day. I sleepily took my morning trek to the bathroom and as is routine, I stood by the sink brushing my teeth. But on this particular morning, I was surprised and unfamiliar with the face that gazed back at me in the bathroom mirror. That can not be what I look like, when I did get those lines in my face? Where's the fresh young face that I've known for well, uh … 50 years? Have I had these lines etched in my face for a while now or is it that the tide has just turned where it's noticeable? Well, it's pretty clear that all those years of fun in the sun are paying me back with every line that I find myself involuntarily tracing with my fingers. I tell myself that maybe I'm looking too closely, being a bit too critical, looking for signs of aging a little too eagerly. I let out a big sigh, wash my weary face, and as I emerge from the towel my eyes catch my husband of 20 years in the mirror. "How long have you been standing there," I ask. With a smile in his eyes that tells me he understands my every thought and worry, he wraps his arms around me, gazes into my reflection in the mirror and says, "you've still got great legs."
I definitely think I'll spend another 20 years with this man …
