The Natural Hair Guru Says – How to Know When You Need a Hair Stylist

[ad_1]

After taking care of your own hair, making a couple of mistakes, or just realizing that your own hair care is a piece of work, choosing a hairstylist can be your next challenge. In this article, my objective is to help you identify at which points it is critical or necessary to incorporate a professional hairstylist in your hair care regimen, rules of etiquette in dealing with a hairstylist, and some basic factors to consider in choosing hairstylist.

Know when you need a professional:

1. Generally, you should visit a professional at least once every three months.
2. You have ongoing or recurring issues with your hair (bald spots, excessive itching, bleeding scalp, anything oozing from the scalp, flakes come back within 3 days after cleaning).
3. Your hair is jacked up.
4. You have never had a hair assessment.
5. The condition of your hair has changed dramatically.
6. You feel uncomfortable with your hair and caring for it.
7. You want or need hair color.
8. You want a hair cut or hair shaping.
9. You have a special event and you want your hair to be flawless.
10. Your hair styling needs a boost.

Etiquette with a hairstylist:

o Take the time to carefully select a hair care professional that suits your needs and supports you in your hair goal / plan. Sometimes this process takes months and often requires distance travel.
o In your relationship with your hair care professional, enter it with honor, integrity, open & honest communication, and fairness.
o Maintain open communication and mutual respect for the partnership at all times. Honor their time and their craft by arriving early for appointments, keeping scheduled appointments, and honoring your word (no surprises).
o Expect excellence in service, respect for time and business ethics.
o Budget to always offer gratuity payment in addition to the payment for service offered. Standard gratuity is 18% of the cost of services received. If you do not have 18% gratuity, offer at least $ 5.00 tip.
o If you treat your hair care professional well, they will treat you well.
o If the time comes that you must move on or you are no longer satisfied with any parts of the services, exit the relationship through the same door of honor, integrity, open & honest communication, and fairness.

Peace, love, and great hair!
