Wedding Attendants 101 – The Role of the Best Man

[ad_1]

The best man is usually the groom's closest male friend. But as with a lot of things in modern day weddings traditional rules on gender are sometimes discarded so you can always have your best female friend as a best maid. This is not common however. The typical roles of the best man are as follows.

He is generally called upon to help out in the search for tuxedos. Whether you are renting or buying, the best man can often help out, giving the groom advice on formal attire that suit both himself and the groomsmen.

The best man is essentially the chief groomsman so its up to him to make sure that the other guys are up to the task. He is responsible for coordinating with them and delegating any tasks that are sent his way.

On the wedding day itself the best man is required to arrange the transport for the groom to the ceremony. Once at the ceremony he stands by the groom, holding the bride's ring until it is required. He will also be required to sign the marriage certificate as a witness.

The main role of the best man at the reception is to make the first toast of the day. This is an extremely important job as it officially kicks of the entire reception. Following the toasts he will then generally dance with the maid of honor and bride in the first few dances of the party.

The best man, together with the groomsmen is also responsible for decorating the newlyweds' getaway vehicle. Tin cans and a sign that says just married are a popular decorating tradition.

Similar to the maid of honor's responsibilities to the bride, the best man will need to be there to provide emotional support to the groom. He will need to listen to any concerns or worries the groom may have and provide reassurance wherever possible.
