[ad_1]

The honor attendant is the person that the bride feels closest too and wants nearby throughout the wedding planning process. An unmarried female is called a maid of honor whereas a married lady is referred to as the matron of honor. While traditionally unheard of, some contemporary weddings feature a man of honor, which is the bride’s closest male friend. Typically an honor attendant will perform the following duties.

As the bride’s closest friend the honor attendant takes a major role in wedding planning. She would typically be present when shopping for both the bridal dress and bridesmaids’ dresses. Traditional wedding etiquette dictates that the maid of honor pays for her own dress while the bride covers the cost of the bridesmaids, however, nowadays, many bridesmaids’ pay for their own dresses, so it is really up to the bride to decide who is paying for what.

One of the maid of honor’s major roles is to organize the bridal shower. Traditionally, she would host it in her own home, but more and more frequently, bridal showers are being held elsewhere. However, it is still up to her to arrange the event and take care of the finer details, such as any bridal shower games.

On the day of the wedding, the maid of honor should be by the bride’s side in the run up to the wedding ceremony. Her role is important, as the bride will probably be at least a little nervous and in need of calming down. You will often be called upon to give a reading at the ceremony, and sign the marriage certificate as a witness. At the wedding reception, she will typically gives a toast to the newlyweds. This follows the best man’s speech. A great tip for delivering the speech is to plan in rough what you are going to say beforehand. Make the speech personal, share some memories that you have of the bride, project your voice and make sure it does not drag on too long.

Once the wedding dances begin the honor attendant will usually share a dance with the best man and the groom. This is only really required if you are having a formal dance sequence to kick of your wedding entertainment.

More than anything, the maid of honor will be required for emotional support. Planning a wedding can get pretty stressful and any relationship problems during the engagement can soon become demoralizing. You will need to be there for the bride whenever she needs you. While the can sometimes be demanding, remember, your role is an important one and it a great privilege to be chosen by the bride.
