Wedding Bands For Women – A Symbol of Love

[ad_1]

Wedding bands are symbols of commitment and love. They tell the world that the wearer is no longer available to be courted. Wedding bands come in styles for women and men. Generally the styles are identical but the sizing is different. The males ring is usually chunkier and comes in larger sizes than the female’s version.

History

It has been a symbol of love and dedication since ancient Egyptian times. The circle of the band was considered mystical and it represented never ending love. The Romans looked at it as a contract between a woman and a man. Only the woman wore the band for centuries, as time wore on it was expected that the man would also show his commitment to the world and would also wear it. This is a relatively new tradition and began in the nineteen forties with World War II when many married men were shipped off to war.

It has been fashioned from all types of materials, initially it was fashioned from iron during Roman times, because iron was the strongest metal available and it symbolized a bond that could not be broken, over time silver and gold became favored. During puritanical times the bands for women were fashioned from the bottom part of a thimble, because jewelry was thought as a waste and impractical, so a man would exchange thimbles with a woman as a sign of engagement, and after the wedding the bottom part of the thimble would be cut off and the woman would wear it.

Today’s Styles

The bands for women have evolved greatly over time, finding a wedding band in iron would be rather difficult, but there are many styles that are available. Some of these bands are gem encrusted and very elaborate. Some wedding bands for women are just simply a gold band; personal preference of the wearer will dictate the style of the band. There has been a trend of late where the band is created from metal other than the precious metals, as a nod to strength and durability there are stainless steel models that have hit the market.

A favorite trend is to have the inside of the band engraved with a special message, or the date of the wedding. The wedding band can also be personalized with the wearers initials engraved on the ring.

Wedding bands for women have a long tradition and can be found in a bevy of styles to suit anyone’s taste.
