Wedding – Best Man Speeches – Don’t Make a Fool of Yourself!

[ad_1]

Depending on your point of view, going to a wedding can be fun or torture! One thing that ruins a good wedding for most people is being the best man! Knowing that during the reception you will have to stand up and deliver a funny and interesting speech in front of a few hundred strangers is enough to spoil anyone’s day! You don’t have to make a speech worthy of the president, but you also don’t want to make a fool of yourself either!

Public speaking is stressful for anyone. Even professional speakers get nervous before making a speech so how is a best man supposed to make a good speech with little or no experience at public speaking? Maybe drinking a few glasses of champagne will help? That’s a sure fire way of making an idiot of yourself!

Now, I would love to tell you ‘this is how you do it’ but that would be a waste of time. Why? Because I don’t know the bride and groom and I don’t know their families. These are the people you should aim to please when making your best man speech.

I could give you a list of wedding one-liners, but how do I know if that would be suitable for you. It depends on the type of wedding. Best man speeches where a corny one-liner is met with a roomful of silence is embarrassing and uncomfortable for everyone, especially the best man.

Best man speeches usually involve telling a funny story about the groom. This is always a good idea, but again, it’s up to you to choose how embarrassing or rude it should be.

Remember it’s not what you find funny; it’s what your audience will find funny!

I’ve literally helped hundreds of people with their best man speech. Each time it has involved finding out what kind of speech will be appropriate for that particular wedding. If you are confident that your audience will be receptive it takes a lot of the pressure away.

For people that I can’t tutor directly, I always recommend the same thing. Get as many prewritten best man speeches as possible and then mix and match. Choose the most appropriate parts of each and put them together to make a speech that will be met with a resounding round of applause.

Creating your own hybrid speech in this manner may even make you the star of the wedding!

It’s a fact that performing the above steps gives the confidence to deliver an excellent best man speech and also means that you don’t have to spend the entire day sweating about making a fool out of yourself.
